Greedfall is a good story game, though lacking some depth

Let me start by stating that I got this game for about $4 after having been interested in it for years, but never being able to justify grabbing it over other titles, so when I saw it on sale for so cheap, I couldn't pass up giving it a go. For that cheap, it was a great value. I may have been able to justify spending up to $20 on it, in hindsight.
I will also say that I almost wanted to refund the game, though because of the low cost, it seemed silly. My primary issue at the start was texture issues, and the general movement and combat mechanics were a bit underwhelming right off the bat.
I was able to fix the texture issues which the solution for me on AMD hardware was to go into the AMD adrenaline settings, - advanced - set the texture filtering quality to high, tesselation mode to override application, and maximum tesselation level 64x. It may have just been the texture filtering quality, but if that alone doesn't work (the rest of the settings were standard, or default) then try overriding tesselation as well.
After solving the texture issue, I decided to give the game a fair chance. I'm glad I did. Whereas it wasn't the greatest game, it was good enough. I pushed through to complete it as quickly as possible, kept thinking I was near the end, and it dragged on a bit at the later stages though overrall was not horrible to stick it out to see through to the conclusions of the story. Considering I can tend to have a hard time completing games, points in it's favor that I was driven to see it through to the end, despite shortcomings.
Most aspects of the game felt a little half baked, just good enough, while aspiring to be great. The combat was mid, every fight relatively easy with the same attack pattern required of dodge, slash once, maybe twice, dodge again - repeat. It felt a bit lacking, but not terrible and I got used to it. Though the skill tree's and weapons seemed unbalanced. I ended up using a dagger and longsword + gun, traps and bombs. Didn't bother with the magic, and tried heavy weapons briefly but they sort of sucked.
The quests got a bit repetitive as it was mostly running back and forth to talk to people. Go somewhere to have one conversation, then go back where you just came from, then go somewhere else for another conversation etc. The game is more driven by the story than the depth of rpg mechanics. All that said, I was still motivated to push through and complete the game, so it wrapped up before I did.
Bearing in mind the size of the studio and budget constraints, it's apparent they had grand vision for it, but perhaps sacrificed depth in any one area, to include everything. Story, combat, world building, character development, relationships, crafting, exploring etc. They packed it all in but sacrificed making any of it outstanding in order to do so. Still rather impressive considering the limitations they were working under. In their favor, there are plenty of AAA titles I spent more money on, and spent less time playing, leaving them unfinished.
So for someone who likes story driven games, I can recommend Greedfall. Though keep expectations low, as it's not an epic like Skyrim, or have the depth of BG3, nor the intensity of a souls game etc. Drawing comparisons from some of the best rpg titles will leave you feeling a bit underwhelmed, if you've come from playing them recently.
Pick it up on sale if you are curious, and have played games of all qualities. Pass if you are looking for strictly the best games, with full depth and polish that would make a game of the year. If that makes sense...
